In this short session we will discuss staff and student digital literacies and present some findings from a recent research project of staff at City St George’s. We used semi structured interviews to discuss staff attitudes to their own and their student’s digital literacies and to investigate the impact of two modules we teach as part of the MA in Academic Practice. EDM124: Developing Digital Education and EDM122 Digital Literacies and Open Practices are taken by a variety of staff and they spoke to us about how their learning from these modules impacted on their teaching practice. We also noted how staff views about student digital literacies are often framed through the lens of students as ‘digital natives’ despite evidence showing these generational models are often inaccurate. This has an impact on how staff view their own capabilities – but what can we learn about this and how can we better equip students and staff?'
